The date is in dispute. Lewisohn reports Crosby`s visit as 24. February 1967. Paul Wane (Tracks-book "Sgt. Pepper") seems to obey him here. But Winn says 22. February 1967. See and read...

        John C. Winn:

There is a report on that [February 24th] session in the April, 1967 "Beat Monthly" which describes John's "Down With Pants" button, and notes the presence of Ravi's brother and David Crosby. It says "this particular session was concerned with completing the vocal by Paul, John and George over a backing track... after they had completed the lyrics. This took Paul and John about half an hour, huddled together with Mal and Neil in one corner, whilst they worked on words and phrases."

"BBM"'s January 1987 issue is full of shots from this session, and in one on page 47, you can see Paul, Mal, and John in a corner. John is drinking tea, and Paul is holding a piece of paper which has the lyrics to "Lovely Rita" on the back - not completed yet compared to the facsimile published in Bruce Spizer's Capitol LP's book (which has the rest in Mal's handwriting).

A Day In The Life received it`s last ingredien, the final piano chord, on 22. February. This was followed by mono-mixing including the tough task of synching ch the two four-tracks for the orchestra to create the body of the song and then editing the final chord to it. Next was repeating the procedure for the stereo mix, but time ran out and only a couple unsatisfactory stereo-"body`s" were produced. On the 23. they produced a new stereo mix and only then added the piano chord edit piece (mixed also to stereo) to it. Crosby reports having heard A Day In The Life with the final piano chord: "They sat me down; they had huge speakers like coffins with wheels on that they rolled up on either side of the stool. By the time it got the end of that piano chord, man my brains were on the floor."
To me it sounds like Crosby heard the stereo mix (note the plural "speakers"). One more point speaking for Mr. Winn`s dating.

It is also said that he contributed backing vocals. This is probably not true and if he did they were not used. The only thing done this day was Paul`s lead vocal - though it looks as if they at least had a try at the backing vocals also (which will be recorded on March 7.

David Crosby is one of the visitors of this session.

As said earlier, the only thing done today was Paul`s lead vocal overdub.
So what are John and Paul doing here? Just playing around like so often?
It might be interesting to note that they are seen playing the same instruments
as used for the backing track of "Lovely Rita": Acoustic guitar and piano.
